Zone 0 Gate Installation

Firewise Fences connects California property owners with Zone 0 compliant fencing; from assessment and material specification through installation, working through our network of local licensed contractors, who hold the contract and perform the work.

What this service covers

Gates are often the last combustible element remaining in an otherwise Zone 0-compliant fence line. A non-combustible fence that ends at a wood gate has a combustible breach point; the gate itself. This service covers the assessment, specification, and coordination of gate replacement within the Zone 0 boundary.

  • On-site assessment of gate locations relative to the 5-foot Zone 0 boundary.
  • Material specification for the gate itself; see Colorbond gates and the KAYU hardwood product pages for the systems we specify.
  • Coordination with a local licensed contractor from our network who holds the contract and performs the physical gate installation.

Material reasoning for gates

The reasoning for gate material choice in the Zone 0 context follows the same logic as exterior doors: building codes classify exterior doors by fire-resistance rating, and a gate in the 0–5 ft zone is functionally a door in the building envelope's first line of defense. This is reasoning for material choice; not a certification claim for gates themselves. Gates are not exterior doors and do not carry an exterior-door fire-resistance certification.

How the process works

1

Assessment

On-site assessment of existing gate locations, gate-to-structure proximity, and which gates fall within the 5-foot Zone 0 boundary.

2

Material specification

We specify the gate material, hardware, and configuration. Gate material choice follows the same Zone 0 reasoning as the fence line; see below.

Quote

A detailed quote is generated through our estimate form; delivered to your email.

4

Contract

A local licensed contractor from our network holds the contract and performs the physical gate installation.

5

Installation

A local licensed contractor from our network installs the gate on-site, with Firewise providing install-crew consultation as needed.

6

Walkthrough

A final walkthrough confirms gate operation, latching, and self-closing function against the specification.
